Armadillo Sea Urchin or Colobocentrotus (Podophora) atratus are found from East Africa to Hawaii. They are good grazers of algae that require an aquarium with strong flow.

Armadillo Urchin are purple black in colour with no sharp spines as ther are all scale shaped in this species.

They prefer an aquarium with a strong flow rate or wave action. They will graze on algae growth as should be offered dried seaweed if little algae remains in the aquarium.
