Candelabra Gorgonia
You will earn 75 Points
The Candelabra Gorgonian is a gorgeous photosynthetic gorgonian coral boasting a lovely purple colouration and a striking architectural form. Sleek upright branches of the Candelabra Gorgonian develop into its namesake candelabra-like shape for an incredible presentation in your reef aquarium landscape.
The Candelabra Gorgonian is peaceful, but it should be given adequate space away from neighbouring corals or anemones. Underwater epoxy is commonly used to anchor its base to a piece of live rock in the reef aquarium. It is more challenging to maintain this species as it requires supplemental feedings several times per week. This gorgonian is photosynthetic and requires a moderate amount of light achieved by powerful LEDs or the more intense metal halides depending on the amount of filter feeding food that is available.
In order to inhibit nuisance algae and cyanobacteria growth on the Candelabra Gorgonian, it is important that you provide medium to strong water flow (constant or intermittent). Remove any nuisance algae or cyanobacteria immediately as this will cause rapid tissue deterioration if it begins to cover the Candelabra Gorgonian. Algae can be removed gently with the use of a soft brush. Combat cyanobacteria by soaking the coral in fresh water of the same temperature for approximately one minute. The Candelabra Gorgonian will also benefit from the addition of iodine, calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
The Candelabra Gorgonian should be fed a few times a week with a filter feeding food. Provide a varied diet of live or frozen baby brine shrimp, Marine Snow, Phytoplankton and other suitable micro foods.
