Species Information

Mimic Anemones are special among anemones as they are capable of controlling their overall appearance to mimic their surrounding such as Algae and Corals. They are commonly found with their foot buried in sandy substrates, extending and shaping the feeding tentacles to mimic a branching coral or algae growth. These anemones have a strong sting that may cause a rash in Humans, wearing gloves when handling is recommended. Some species of Damselfish have been known to host within the safety of the Mimic Anemones tentacles.
