Most Cyphastrea Coral have an encrusting formation and are popular because they are hardy and fast growing. Adding to the reasons hobbyists find them interesting is that they can undergo some colour shifting, displaying more vibrant colours when tank conditions are optimal. Requiring a moderate care level because they are semi-aggressive, it is important to leave space between them and any neighbours when they are planted due to the fact that they will expand their sweeper tentacles well beyond their base as they grow.
The Cyphastrea Coral will satisfy the majority of their nutritional requirements by means of photosynthetic, symbiotic zooxanthellae algae hosted within their bodies. They will also benefit from occasional broadcast feeding in the form of micro-plankton or foods designed for corals.
For continued good health, these corals will require the addition of supplemental calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water, with medium to strong water flow and moderate lighting.
