Acanthurus achilles X nigricans is a hybrid between the two quite well known tangs A. achilles and A. nigricans. Like the fish it is a hybrid from, it's a quite sensitive surgeonfish only suitable for experienced aquarists. The colors are a bit variable depending on which proporties it heritated from which parent. It needs plenty of swimming space and clean water to thrive. It can be aggressive towards other fish, especially other tangs and food competitors, but once it is settled in the tank it will be the showpiece of the aquarium.

Like other tangs, it will eat meaty foods, but it's important it can graze on algae/seaweed the entire day to ensure it will stay healthy. So feed flakes/pellets multiple times a day and make sure there is always seaweed available.

A large is necessary to provide plenty of swimming room, and these fishes require strong water flow as they are normally found in surge zones. They can be aggressive towards other Tangs, but peaceful with other fish.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae foods. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, at least 3 times per week along with their regular feeding schedule.
