The Black Pearlscale Butterflyfish is a hardy aquarium species that can be kept in pairs. They will feed on algae, polychaete worms, hydroids, sponges and some coral polyps.

They can be kept with more noxious soft corals.

The Black Pearlscale Butterflyfish is part of the "xanthurus complex" consisting of lookalike species with similar latticed pattern.
