Gunthers butterflyfish are usually occurs in pairs or in groups, which can number up to 20 individuals or more. Adults of this species have been observed picking parasites off larger pelagic fish species. This species quickly acclimates to life in captivity. It needs plenty of swimming room and his best not kept with overly aggressive tank mates. It can be displayed in pairs or in small groups if the tank is large enough however it is not suitable for reef aquariums.
