The Red Tail Trigger is mostly blueish purple in colour. The sides are marked with evenly spaced spots that are darker than the rest of the body. The fish is also outlined in darker lines that progress into the tail and change from their dark colour into a red colouration.

They can vocalizes using a "grunting" sound. The Red Tail Trigger are very friendly and make a great pet as well as a great conversation piece.

An aquarium with rocks and caves provides a good habitat for the Red Tail Triggerfish, however, it will tend to rearrange the landscaping and rocks.

The Red Tail Triggerfish needs a varied diet of meaty foods including; squid, krill, clams, small fish and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.
