The Trumpetfish are a reddish grey or grey brown colour but can also be found in a bright yellow form. They have two black spots on the caudal fin.
The Trumpetfish is usually found in clear, shallow water, in rocky and coral areas of protected and seaward reefs. They feed on small fishes and crustaceans, however they will not harm any corals.
They are a slow-moving fish relying partly on stealth and camouflage to sneak up on unsuspecting prey and often darts down vertically on its prey. They should be kept singly as they are usually solitary.
Their diet should include live feeder shrimp, brineshrimp and chopped meaty foods.
